Dr. David Passaretti can perform a procedure that gives you a trimmer figure while safely speeding up your liposuction recovery at our Darien plastic surgery practice. Liposuction is one of the most popular plastic surgeries because it is an efficient, effective, minimally invasive technique to sculpt your body into a fitter, more attractive shape.
Since it is a relatively simple procedure, liposuction typically does not require a lengthy healing period, especially with Dr. Passaretti’s guidance and our advanced techniques. By undergoing liposuction at our office and following our post-surgical instructions, you can quickly begin enjoying your enhanced appearance. To perform liposuction, Dr. Passaretti will numb the treatment area, create small incisions, and insert a tiny tube called a cannula. He will then break apart fat deposits so they can be gently suctioned out. During the traditional tumescent procedure, Dr. Passaretti will inject a special solution comprised of salt water, local anesthesia, and epinephrine, a drug that minimizes bleeding. We can also use an ultrasonic tool to more effectively dissolve fat deposits before they are aspirated. Once he has removed the excess fat cells, Dr. Passaretti will close and clean your incisions to finish your treatment.
Immediately following your procedure, we will apply compression garments to enhance contouring while you heal. As the numbing agent wears off, you may begin to feel sore. Your skin may also swell or redden, with inflammation and bruising reaching its height about two days after your procedure. Dr. Passaretti may prescribe painkillers, antibiotics, or other medications to help manage any discomfort and encourage swift healing. Once you return home, you should begin resting with the treatment regions elevated, if possible. You should not engage in strenuous exercise or heavy lifting until you receive approval.
In the week following your liposuction, your swelling and soreness should diminish. You may need to attend a follow-up visit to remove any sutures during this period. Most patients return to work, school, and other activities within three to seven days. You should not drink alcohol or smoke during this period, as these habits could disrupt or slow your recovery.
In the weeks after your procedure, you should engage in gentle exercise to reduce inflammation and lower your risks for hematoma (blood clotting). You should avoid exposing the treated areas to excessive heat or light. You will need to wear a compression garment at all times during this period.
During this period, your swelling should continue to subside as your skin tightens. About six months after liposuction, you should be fully healed and able to enjoy the results of your procedure.
You can enjoy a tighter, more toned shape with liposuction, especially if you take the right steps during your recovery timeline. Contact us today to learn more and schedule a consultation with Dr. Passaretti.
